Good news! The Blacks, Asia and other minority ethnic (BAME) group are being offered a fully-funded doctoral research scholarship program at Swansea University. The scholarship is a full-tuition program and makes provision for other students needs such as living stipends, board, travel cost etc.
The scholarship for BAME was necessitated by a recent study which shows that people who fall within the BAME group were likely to view the engineering culture as non-inclusive. The study showed that Blacks, Asia, and other minority groups are of the opinion that the engineering culture is predominantly occupied by whites, especially the leadership position in the field of engineering.
The sentiment is supported by evidence of a research work that shows less than 0.5% of BAME engineers were board members of engineering companies in the UK and other EU nations.
Also, the research showed that less than 0.1% of professors were from the BAME group. So, to encourage students who identify as BAME, Swansea University is offering fully funded scholarship to suitably qualified students from around the world.
